My name is Hope Putnam and I am proud to serve as the Parent and Family
Engagement Coordinator here at Cliffside Elementary this school year.
Feel free to contact me (hputnam@rcsnc.org) if you have any questions.
I wanted to make sure that you are aware of and well informed about the
Parent Resource Room here at Cliffside.  It is a wonderful resource for all
parents/guardians.  It is located in the rear of the auditorium.
You are welcome to come check it out any time during school hours.
Just stop by the office and receive a visitor's pass. The office staff will be
glad to direct you to the Parent Resource Room.

Parent and Family Engagement Policy
Cliffside  Elementary is committed to the goal of providing a quality education for every child in the school.  Our vision is, "A place where students want to learn and the opportunity to learn is always present."  To this end, we want to establish partnerships with parents and the community.  Everyone gains if the school and home work together to promote high achievement.  Neither home nor school can do the job alone.  Parents play an extremely important role as their child's first teachers.  Their support for their children and for the school is critical for success.
Programs and activities provided with Title I funds will be discussed at the first annual PTO meeting.  Parents will be sent written notices giving the time and place of the meeting. At this meeting, parents will be offered a chance to become involved.  Additional parent engagement activities will be offered throughout the year for parents to become involved in the school setting.
At the beginning of each school year grade level competencies and goals will be distributed to all parents with the expectation that all students will work toward these goals.  Extra assistance will be made available for students who need help in reaching these goals.
Communication with parents will include written notices, the school website, telephone calls, and conferences as needed.  Parents are encouraged to take initiative in calling their child's teacher when they have concerns.  Translators will be available for conferences, as needed.
Cliffside Elementary believes that there are many ways in which parents can become involved with their children's education.  The school values both the at-home contributions and those which take place at school and in the community.  Reading to children and talking with them at home are as important as volunteering and serving on committees at school.  Many types of parental involvement are needed in a school-home-community partnership that will help all our children succeed.
(The parent involvement policy was discussed during the first PTO meeting of the year.  All parents were invited.  Those in attendance had the opportunity to offer suggestions/revisions to update our school's policy.)
